Mustard, Black, and White by Kristine

J.Crew cardigan ; c/o Modcloth blouseUrban Outfitters skirt; Seychelles shoes; Old Navy purse

First of all, a Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there!!! Have you called your mom yet? :)Mustard is quite possibly my favorite color right now. Something about it – and I’m not sure what it is – goes with neutrals so, so well.  I love how this cardigan looked on top of my black and white polka dotted top. I’m always very conscious of what colors I choose to pair with black and white.

And another thing – I kept this in my closet back home while I was adventuring in Japan. When I came back, it was like I had discovered a new treasure! Lesson learned: Time away really does make the heart grow fonder, even with clothes. Who knew?

The Not-So-Bold Mixer

I originally wore this polka-dot top with my striped skirt because I wanted to “try new things” – isn’t that what fashion blogging is about? …but then I chickened out at work and changed into a spare white t-shirt I had in my gym bag. It might have even been a little smelly. But that’s not important. I definitely felt more comfortable in a t-shirt than in this bold mix of patterns. Which one are you? The bold mixer or the play-it-safer?

I’m wearing a JCPenney scarf (free), JCPenney top (free), Forever 21 skirt ($6), thrifted wedges ($10), and vintage bag ($15).

Rules are for breaking…unless it’s the law.

I wore this for church today. I haven’t been posting my Sunday outfits because we’re always late and so I end up throwing on whatever and feeling like whatever, you know? But today I did my hair and actually thought about what to wear. I deserve a million points. Change that to dollars and we’ve got a deal.

One of my previous style rules was not wearing like-colors together. But I’ve been trying to break my rules because they’re stupid. I love the light colors here together:  gray, ivory, and white. Your homework assignment for this week is to break one of your style rules!! Email me if you do – I’d love to see your outfit and know about the rule you broke!
I’m wearing an Old Navy cardigan ($4), JCPenney shirt (free with gift card), lace belt (from Fay), skirt from Korea ($10), and JCPenney heels (free with gift card).

Tip:  Use double-stick tape when you wrap your cardigan so it doesn’t flap and get frumpy!
