I wore this last weekend when my parents were in town and Chase and I were able to go grocery shopping BY OURSELVES. It was amazing. No intricate car seat buckles, no trying to contain a handsy and wiggly baby in the shopping cart, is this what heaven is like? I think I can hear angels singing..
I just got this button-up from thredUP
and I’m in love. They’re TEA CUPS! I didn’t realize I was so whimsical.
|Close up of my….crotch? :/ Just focus on the tea cups…
We also had a birthday dinner that night for my brother-in-law and I wanted to dress up and to cut down on standing in front of my closet for an hour trying on 298374 different outfits again, I just changed out the bottoms and shoes. Afterwards, my parents watched Grey while some of us went to my BIL’s friends’ band play for their 10th(!!!!!) anniversary. It was so loud and late and I felt so old, butbutbut….we did young people stuff!!!11
This past weekend my parents came to visit. Those who know me and/or follow me on Twitter know that it is the MOST stressful thing for me. It’s been better since we’ve had Grey so their attention is placed elsewhere…i.e., away from me and onto Grey who soaks up all the attention like a ShamWow.
The best part of their stay was a half an hour before I was supposed to go pick them up when Grey had the BIGGEST blow out of the century…like all over his car seat, his legs, and his arms and hands. I think I puked in my mouth a little…or a lot. I had also reserved that half an hour to do a last minute cleaning for my neurotic and germophobe mother. Instead, I spent TWO hours bathing Grey and cleaning, dissassembling, washing, drying, and REassembling the car seat. I thought I was going to die of a stress attack that day…and I would’ve welcomed it. I did not sign up for this…!!!!!
Anyone have any good news today? Just writing this out again is making me anxious and giving me hot flashes..
(And, yes, I totally copied the fabulous Sydney’s outfit.)
P.S.. If you missed it, there’s a giveaway going on right now for a colorful short-sleeve maxi dress HERE!
I miss 30 Rock.. 🙁 Moving on… with a tear.
I wore this casual get-up a couple weekends ago when we had a sleepover at my in-laws’ house. We go there a few times each month and sometimes stay the night because it’s our second home…and they have a pool…and stocked fridge and pantry…and cable. It’s like, why did we leave again?? (To backtrack, we lived with them for a few months earlier this year while I was recovering from a C-section and so we’d have more time finding an apartment for our new family of tres.)
I realized right after I put this outfit on that I wore the same tank top and light blazer as I did here
It just goes together, you know? And by “goes“, I mean that blazer is the lightest covering I have for this kind of weather. Come on…..FALL!
So I guess you can consider the outfit below as a casual after-church version??
K, moving on to the newest addition to my closet….these straight leg jeans. My very first pair. I’m calling them The New Boyfriend Jeans. They’re just as comfy but with a more fitted leg, so it doesn’t look like you’re actually wearing your boyfriend’s jeans. And they’re kind of my favorite right now and forever.
Hey! My thredUP code is still active! 35% off and free shipping for new customers when you use CM35.
Oh, and here are some pics of my baby in a hat because I couldn’t get enough of him on my Insta. <3
And some more. Story: My father-in-law thrifted this tiny armchair and bought it for Grey!! It’s the perfect size for him to lounge and watch his Saturday morning cartoons once a month and demand his milk. Please tell me I’m not the only one who sees a future teenage Grey.. Someone stop time!!!! :(:( I’m not ready.
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! Try not to die in this heat. For me.
- Keep your hair away from your face and neck.
- Shower (at least) 5 times a day. (IT’S A JOKE! Kind of.)
- Sunglasses and sunscreen are muy importante.
- Wear breathable fabric like cotton. NO polyester or synthetic fabrics that may stick to your skin when you sweat.
- Avoid layers, especially those layering tees!! Simple is best! Think basic essentials: top, bottoms, shoes, and jewelry. You’ll be so hot you won’t care about looking good. So make sure your BASICS look good!
- Breathable shoes…but, please… NO flip-flops.
- Try to avoid dark colors because all that stuff you learned in science class in elementary school is f’real.
The Mormon church recently updated their missionary guidelines for dress and personal grooming that you can see here. I loved that they gave you examples, but it seems to be only for cool weather. I mean, why are they all wearing jackets?!? They’d roast here in Sacramento. (We’ve been seeing high 90s here the past couple of weeks. So I pretty much hate life.) I’d advise sister missionaries in hot climates to NOT wear jackets if you don’t want to be hospitalized. Just thinking about it is giving me hot flashes.. Instead of wearing a jacket/blazer, focus on clothing with details that will make it more professional for you.
When it’s too hot to think about looking presentable, the easiest solution would be a DRESS. You can get creative with your accessories and hair to change it up each time. Here are some missionary-worthy dress outfits (well, to me, at least.. I may be wrong.. I’ve never served a mission. I was a child-bride.)
|For the outfit details going L to R.. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
And here are some modest dresses I found for you. All under $25!! OH YEAH
I mentioned this in my old post, and I’ll say it again… FULL SKIRTS! ..like the ones that fall away from your body. No clinging of any kind here because once you add sweat into the mix…it ain’t pretty.
|What am I wearing? L-R: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
And a few of my picks.. again all under $25!!
I also picked out some COTTON and RAYON TOPS that I thought were cute for a sister missionary:
OKAY, where are all my RM sisters at?!? Can you weigh in with your words of wisdom? (hehe)

I wore this a couple weekends ago when Chase and I were running errands and shopping. Now that this guy has a job with a business dress code, we’re starting to realize a work wardrobe solely based on H&M isn’t going to last very long. So we went to Nordstrom during their anniversary sale and bumped into an internet friend of mine, Kali!! She used to have a fashion blog and is a photographer in Stockton
. We’ve been talking about getting together so it was so funny to see her out of the blue. She’s the sweetest and it was so great to finally meet her in person. Even Grey couldn’t get enough of her! 🙂

Wore this to church a couple weeks ago but I’ve worn this outfit plllenty of times before that. Loose untucked shirt for easy access to the boob? CHECK. Loose skirt because summer sucks? CHECK. It’s like once I became a mom, I’ve given up on anything form-fitting and that has zippers, which is like half of my closet. Pre-baby Elaine didn’t know what was up. I should’ve warned her.
It was World Breastfeeding Week last week and I’d like to share an experience that confirms the importance of breastfeeding awareness..
I breastfed Grey (WITH A COVER) during church the same day I wore this outfit and got the ultimate stare-down from a high-up-there church leader. Even though I want to believe he was staring because he was proud of me for doing something so simple yet controversial in the house of the Lord, I’m pretty sure his stares were those of disapproval.
In most of the Mormon church buildings, there’s a private room called the “Mother’s Lounge,” which is basically a closet with two gross chairs and maybe a counter for diaper-changing… and I hate it. I feel disconnected and isolated to have to go in a separate room to do something as simple as FEED my BABY.
For better posts about breastfeeding, you should read Lauren’s of Brimleys Take Flight and Stacey’s of Mrs. Sargent.

This one broke a lot of personal rules for me. The first being to avoid black always and forever. And the second being to avoid animal print forever and always. Not because I have anything against them. It’s just one of those things that looks great on other people. No, I don’t feel liberated or empowered. I’ll still probably avoid black and animal print, but I have a number one rule that trumps all other rules. And that is, if you find a pair of fun pants for less than $15, you buy them. Period. The end. Over and out.
I really like my tartan-patterned skirt. It has pockets and elastic around the waist. Could you get more perfect? Comfort, practicality – I might actually convince my husband this is an essential item :). I love it so much, I have totally disregarded the fact that it’s screaming Christmas. Paired it with a little summer wear and viola! It’s totally summer, right? Besides, doesn’t everyone say they want Christmas in July?

I wore this to church this past Sunday for an hour because Grey was being the most well-behaved child and we wanted to go home early and cherish it forever. (Yeah……. NOPE.)
This tank is another item I received from thredUP. It’s super soft and it has BUTTONS, which cometofindout are the BEST for nursing. I gave all of my button-ups away because the ladies were too big, and I didn’t want to take anyone’s eyes out. You’re welcome, world.
So that same day, we had dinner with Meredith and her fam. I’m embarrassed it took like 3 months to meet her!! Her kiddos are so cute, especially that Everly. I knew Grey was big for his age but compared to Ev, he’s a monster baby…my monster baby, I mean. <3 And I’m pretty sure Chase and Bronson are BFFs now.

This midi skirt is my third item from thredUP
! (If you didn’t know, you can get $10 off your first purchase through this link
.) My first perfect-midi-length skirt. I have a floral one
that hit at a weird part on my calves that made my already big calves look very…attractive. So I hemmed it. THIS, however, doesn’t require any alterations because it’s PERFECT and makes my ankles look so sexy. You can’t deny.
Has anyone else had trouble finding the perfect midi skirt? Or is it just me and my big legs? (and sexy ankles.)
This gray sweater dress is my second item from thredUP! I mean, what is better than a sweater dress in 100° weather! Because I’m a genius. I can’t wait til the temps get cooler so I can wear it with leggings and boots.. For now, I’ll sweat my way through each wear because I love it so much…which is why I wore it twice in a row! Here’s how I styled a gray sweater dress for summer weather..
During the high temps, I like to keep my outfits super simple and fuss-free. Like instead of jewelry, I opted for a skinny belt with a magnetic flower, which may not have been a good idea when you’re carrying a 23-pound weight on your hip and he keeps plucking at it. Babies… amirite?
This is my run-out-the-door-just-hurry-up-and-wear-something outfit. Bun, dress, boots – can’t get simpler and quicker than that!
Also, any new pose requests? My pose shuffle is stuck.

I received a box of clothes from thredUP
last week and can’t wait to show you guys! They have trendy, practically new clothes for a fraction of the retail price. Plus, you can sell your
clothes and get credit back. Being the cheapskate I am, I love me some secondhand clothes. I like to feel I’m helping the earth…one clothing at a time.
And maybe I convinced Chase that we needed to go to the mall so I could wear my “new” shirt because it’s a million degrees outside, and then he ended up trying on and buying clothes (not me for once) so win-win!
Big cheeses to make my boy smile!! // Shirt shopping is rough for a tall, handsome drink of water.
The fam and I are headed up north to the Redwoods to escape the heat for 4th of July!! I’m so excited. I’ve never seen the big trees and it’ll be nice to be away from the city and my laptop for a little. Although I can’t cut myself off entirely from technology… I’m bringing my tablet
and phone. WHAT.
Stay cool, ‘Murica. I’ll be back..

In May I finally donned a cap and gown and officially graduated! Yay! For all those graduating, here is my personal advice on how to dress under that cap and gown:
- Where something light. A cap and gown are heavy and hot, especially if your graduation ceremony is outside.
- Pockets are necessary. Never underestimate the power of pockets. You can’t carry a purse up on stage, but you need a phone to find your family afterward. Solution: Have a pocket available. Also, from past experience, it isn’t a bad idea to have a light snack hiding in one of your pockets. I like fishy crackers.
- Flat shoes. I wore heels at my last graduation and my feet HURT by the end of the day. This time around I was all over my flat sandals – made my life so much easier.
- Jewelry. I personally forgo almost all jewelry on graduation day. I love replacing it with the leis – candy or flower.
- Finally, hair. I personally wear it down so I can run my fingers through it when I take off my cap. But, always have bobby pins in one of those pockets – your cap can always use a little extra hold.
Congrats to all of you who graduated/are graduating this year!
I am very excited that I finally found a hair cut that will work with hats! Seriously, my hair is thick and curly (AKA frizzy). Short hair just poofed out under hats, and I have such a long face I needed something to give the illusion of less face – welcome bangs! It has taken all my woman-power to not cut my hair off…so far I am happy I haven’t. Let’s see if this lasts through the summer.. Anyone else find their perfect hair cut?
